As I reflected on my spiritual walk and goals for this new season, several scriptures came to mind that I want to apply:
Be Watchful and Vigilant
In 1 Peter 5:8 and Matthew 26:41, we're reminded to be self-controlled, vigilant, and spiritually awake. It’s easy to become complacent or allow distractions to accumulate. I want to be intentional about guarding myself against complacency through spiritual disciplines like prayer and Scripture meditation.
Stepping Aside Like Moses
In Exodus 3, Moses’ attention was grabbed by a miraculous sight - a burning bush not consumed by the flames. Yet this visual manifestation of God’s presence occurred as Moses turned aside from his normal path to investigate further. I don’t want to miss what God might want to reveal to me simply because I’m too busy or unaware. Like Moses, I want to intentionally “turn aside” from my routines at times to draw near to God and listen.
Position Yourself to Hear
2 Corinthians 12:9 reminds me that God’s grace is sufficient for me. I want tune my spiritual ears to hear His voice more clearly in this season. As I position myself through prayer, study, and times of solitude, I am expectant for fresh vision, direction, and empowerment. I want to steward my thoughts well by continually renewing my mindset to align with His truth (Romans 12:2).
Learn from the Past
In Philippians 3, Paul talks about forgetting what lies behind and straining toward what is ahead. I know God redeems failures, and there are lessons to learn, but past regrets can also exert an unhealthy pull. So I aim to temper self-reflection with forward-focused faith, believing God will use my experiences to further His good plans (Jeremiah 29:11).
Let the Spirit Guide Your Secret Place
Revelation 1 speaks of John being “in the Spirit on the Lord’s day” when he received dramatic visionary insight about the glorified Jesus and the future unfolding of history. While not expecting anything so dramatic, I do want to regularly meet with God in receptive unhurried moments. My goal is to strengthen my relationship with Him and discern any personal direction He might want to reveal.
I’m believing God wants to enhance my spiritual growth and effectiveness this year. I hope these scriptural themes will help me tune my ears to hear Him more clearly each step of the way. What passages have been significant to you as you’ve considered your own spiritual goals and vision? I’d love to learn which have been meaningful to you as well!
